Museo Canario in Las Palmas
Gran Canaria has over 40 different museums. One of the largest is the Museo Canario in Las Palmas, which concentrates on Gran Canaria’s indigenous population. Museo Canario is located in the heart of Vegueta, just a stone’s throw from the cathedral of Las Palmas. Museo Canario was established in 1879. Dr. Gregorio Chil and Naranjo, one of only six doctors in a city with 18,000 inhabitants, had the goal of creating a scientific center that contained Canarian antiques. At the same time it became one of the city’s first tourist attractions. Museo Canario is organized over two floors. On the lower floor you will find the documentation center, which is essentially a library, and you will find and shop. Entrance fee is 4 euros.

Cenobio de Valeron
This network of between 200 and 300 caves dates back to the Stone Age, and is now open to the public. One theory is that they house priests or women who were expecting to marry – another and more likely theory is that they were used as storage for agriculture. An impressive attraction anyway, and well worth a visit.

Experience Europe’s only coffee plantation in Agaete
On the La Laja plantation outside the small town of Agaete in the northwest of Gran Canaria you can visit and experience the plantation itself or as part of a journey. Here you can be shown around and told how the coffee is grown. Among other things, you learn that the coffee boxes are grown in the shade under tall vines since they need heat and shade. You can get a taste of authentic coffee, bananas and self-made wine. Due to the warm climate, tropical fruits are also grown here, such as mango, avocado and papaya.
Local farmer Victor Jorge is the fifth generation to work on producing coffee, and is rightly proud of his product because of its exceptionally high quality. With its fame spreading, the plantation now attracts both local and international tourists from around the world. Packages with Agaete Coffee are available for sale at La Finca la Laja for around 17 €. You can also find them in the gourmet section of El Corte Ingle’s supermarkets and specialty stores selling Canary Island products.

Santa Ana Cathedral in Las Palmas
The Santa Ana Cathedral from 1497 is beautiful and worth a visit. It is the oldest and largest church in Gran Canaria. The construction of the church began in 1497, shortly after Spain’s conquest of the islands in 1478. It took almost 400 years before the church was completed and made it a mixture of different architectural styles. The cathedral is wooded with side caps. The classic west front was built according to plans by the architect and sculptor Luján Pérez, who has also left for many of the cathedral sculptures, including the 12 apostles under the dome and the sculpture “La Dolorosa” (the pain) in the side chapels.
Otherwise, the church contains paintings by Cristobal de Quintana and Juan de Miranda. Located in the atmospheric old town of Vegueta, everything should be suitable for a cozy visit.

In San Agustin on Gran Canaria you will find the western park Sioux City. The Western City was built in 1972 for recordings of western films. It cost staggering $ 15 million to build Sioux City! Today, there are about 100 inhabitants in the western park. After the western movie industry stopped, Sioux City has gradually become an amusement park for the whole family. Westernparken has its own reptile department with different types of snakes, spiders and a world-famous white crocodile.
Cowboys, Indians and Sheriffs wander street long. Around a street corner we saw gunpowder and shotguns. We were imprisoned and “locked in” in a weird and dark cell with a footrest on the foot. We were dressed as bandits and wanted big posters with the promise of high bounties. For a moment, I felt I was in a western movie.
The highlight of the evening was the amazing Western show! There was speed and excitement from the first minute. Galloping horses and aggressive bulls almost thundered through the streets and across the square where the show was taking place. Fillings and thieves were chased by sheriffs. Acrobatic Indians impressed with flame shutdown and swarm casting. It was a wonderful mix of drama and humor! The show was a “live show” of a true western movie!

Full service throughout the movie so you can enjoy a delicious pizza or other digg. There is also a separate staffed play area for the children.
